CURLY HAIR

CURLY HAIR SPECIALISTS

The Gallery is home to uniquely talent Stylists, including those who specialise in curls.

Specialising in curly hair means understanding the subtle differences in needs between textures that can vary with heritage and condition. Getting the very best style from your curls comes from a blend of creative flare, science and experience remembering that your hair will not always need the same thing.

We can shy away from our natural hair, often craving what we don’t have. You’re blonde you want to be dark. Straight hair? You want curly. Fighting your natural hair can make day to day styling far harder than it needs to be so working with a Stylist who can recognise what is best for your hair is important. Embracing what you have means working with your Stylist to achieve a cut most suited to how you wear your hair most, allowing you to style with ease and confidence.

If you like to switch between wearing your hair smooth and curly or you prefer to wear your curls always, we can advise on the best cuts and treatments for you, even tailoring our Gallery Rituals to suit you.

It is important to us that we give enough time to assess your curls and give you the style you desire. Your hair type, thickness and length will all influence how long we need for your appointment. A free consultation prior to your appointment is the best way to understand your needs and estimate time needed and therefore the price of your appointment.

Q&A

Q. I need a curly cut, how do I book the appointment?
A. Like any other appointment, give our wonderful front of house team a call and let them know what you want. They will ask some very straight forward questions to be able to book you the correct appointment.

Q. Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
A. You will need a free consultation either in person or via a video chat to allow our Stylist to understand your needs. We want to see:
– the length of your hair
– the thickness of your hair
– the type of curl you have (the Andre Walker scale.

We will ask you how you like to wear your hair.  If you wear your hair curly all the time or if you like to straighten your curls. Your Stylist will explain the difference between cutting options (curly cut vs wet cut) as this will play a part in the appointment needed.

If you require colour, you will need a colour patch test which can be done at the same time as your consultation.

Q. Do I need to do anything with my hair on the day of my appointment?
A. Please come with your hair washed, conditioned, detangled and thoroughly dried.  We ask that you don’t tie up your hair, use clips or wear a hat, this will stretch the natural curl pattern and we need to see your hair in its most natural form.

If you usually use products this is fine, please do avoid anything excessively greasy or oily for example shea butter or coconut oil. Please don’t brush, pick or comb out your curls before the appointment.

Our final ask, please come with an open mind, ready to accept and love your hair in all its’ natural glory.

Q. What will happen during my appointment?
A. Firstly, you will talk with your Stylist about your needs, lifestyle and your normal curl routine (if you have one). Your cut will happen in one of three ways, wet, dry or after straightening, this will be decided based on your curl texture. Once cut, your hair will be washed and conditioned appropriately with one of our many treatment options.

Q. Can you teach me how to take care of my curls?
A. At any point during your appointment we encourage you to ask questions.  Textured hair has a life of its’ own, caring for it is a journey of discovery.  Your hairs’ needs will change with length, colour, season, even wash to wash. Asking questions will help you learn and feel confident to experiment.

Q. Can I buy the products you use in my hair?
A. You will likely need to have a range of products, styling tools and accessories to get the best out of your curls.  We will walk you through the products that we have in available in the salon, we have an incredible range for you to purchase.
